Discussion Forum : Statement and Conclusion - Section 1 (Q.No. 16)
Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true, then consider the two conclusions together and decide which of them logically follows beyond a reasonable doubt from the information given in the statement.

Give answer:

  • (A) If only conclusion I follows
  • (B) If only conclusion II follows
  • (C) If either I or II follows
  • (D) If neither I nor II follows and
  • (E) If both I and II follow.

16.

Statements: Jade plant has thick leaves and it requires little water.

Conclusions:

  1. All plants with thick leaves require little water.
  2. Jade plants may be grown in places where water is not in abundance.
Only conclusion I follows
Only conclusion II follows
Either I or II follows
Neither I nor II follows
Both I and II follow
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The statement talks of jade plants only and not 'all plants with thick leaves'. So, I does not follow. Also, since jade plants require little water, so they can be grown in places where water is not in abundance. So, II follows.

I think option Option D is correct.

According to me, Option c may be chosen. But we can't take a particular decision in this case.

I think option B is wrong because there is no statement stating about its growth or where the water is not abundance and all that stuff.

It may be an assumption we can make but may or may not be correct.

I think it can be grown or it can't be. Option B is wrong not a definite conclusion.
