Logical Reasoning - Statement and Conclusion - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Statement and Conclusion - Section 1 (Q.No. 37)
Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true, then consider the two conclusions together and decide which of them logically follows beyond a reasonable doubt from the information given in the statement.

Give answer:

  • (A) If only conclusion I follows
  • (B) If only conclusion II follows
  • (C) If either I or II follows
  • (D) If neither I nor II follows and
  • (E) If both I and II follow.

37.

Statements: No country is absolutely self-dependent these days.

Conclusions:

  1. It is impossible to grow and produce all that a country needs.
  2. Countrymen in general have become lazy.
Only conclusion I follows
Only conclusion II follows
Either I or II follows
Neither I nor II follows
Both I and II follow
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, only I provides a suitable explanation to the given statement. So, only I follows.

Even I feel it is D. Statement I does not logically follow. In fact, the 'statement' follows directly from I.

So answer should be D.

It should be D since conclusion 1 says that it is never possible to grow and produce all that a country needs, while statement says about these days.
