# Logical Reasoning - Statement and Assumption - Discussion

### Discussion :: Statement and Assumption - Section 4 (Q.No.48)

In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

• (A) If only assumption I is implicit
• (B) If only assumption II is implicit
• (C) If either I or II is implicit
• (D) If neither I nor II is implicit
• (E) If both I and II are implicit.

48.

Statement: Use PVC pipes which have 10 years longer life to any other.

Assumptions:

1. People prefer only those pipes which are durable.
2. Other pipes are not durable.

[A]. Only assumption I is implicit [B]. Only assumption II is implicit [C]. Either I or II is implicit [D]. Neither I nor II is implicit [E]. Both I and II are implicit

Explanation:

Clearly, nothing is mentioned about the choice of the people. It is simply an advice. So, I is not implicit. Clearly, the other pipes are not as durable as the PVC pipes. So, II is implicit.

Sajaneri said: (Mar 3, 2015) It says in the explanation that "Clearly, the other pipes are not as durable" So, what makes assumption II correct? "not durable" is different from "not as durable".

Rupal Banerjee said: (Sep 25, 2015) There is nothing mentioned about the durability of other pipes. So according to me D is the answer.

Prateek C said: (Apr 15, 2020) Other pipes can also be durable (not as compared to PVC) so option D should be correct.

Jem said: (Sep 14, 2020) I think it is A, As people want durable ones they say PVC is durable.

Shreya said: (Sep 18, 2020) I think A is the answer.
