Logical Reasoning - Statement and Assumption - Discussion

Discussion :: Statement and Assumption - Section 4 (Q.No.45)

In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

• (A) If only assumption I is implicit
• (B) If only assumption II is implicit
• (C) If either I or II is implicit
• (D) If neither I nor II is implicit
• (E) If both I and II are implicit.

45.

Statement: The electric supply corporation has decided to open a few more collection centres in the business district area.

Assumptions:

1. The people in the area may welcome the decision.
2. Henceforth there may be less time required by the customers for paying electricity bill.

 [A]. Only assumption I is implicit [B]. Only assumption II is implicit [C]. Either I or II is implicit [D]. Neither I nor II is implicit [E]. Both I and II are implicit

Explanation:

Clearly, more collection centres would enable the common people to pay their bills easily, conveniently and quickly and this would cause them to welcome the idea. So, both I and II are implicit.

 Akash said: (Sep 28, 2016) Statement II is a conclusion to the premise statements so how can we say that as an assumption. It tells about what could happen if the electric supply corporation decides to open a few more collection centres in the business district area.
