Logical Reasoning - Statement and Assumption - Discussion
Discussion Forum : Statement and Assumption - Section 5 (Q.No. 8)
Directions to Solve
In each question below is given a statement followed by three assumptions numbered I, II and III. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions, decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement and choose your answer accordingly.
8.
Statement: The residents of the locality wrote a letter to the Corporation requesting to restore normalcy in the supply of drinking water immediately as the supply at present is just not adequate.
Assumptions:
- The Corporation may not take any action on the letter.
- The municipality has enough water to meet the demand.
- The water supply to the area was adequate in the past.
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The Corporation's response to the letter cannot be deduced from the statement. So, I is not implicit. The municipality's position in regard to water supply is also not mentioned. So, II is also not implicit. Since the residents talk of 'restoring' normalcy, it means that water supply was adequate in the past. So, III is implicit.

Agree @Mayank.
The Answer should be B.
The Answer should be B.

I think B is the answer.
Because they (residencials) must have assumed that they have water only then would have written the letter.

The simple addressing of such a request is on the basic assumption that it can be done.

"to restore normalcy in the supply of drinking water immediately as the supply at present is just not adequate. "Nothing implied that the water supply was adequate before. Notice the word "just". It further implies that the adequate is just a randomly picked word. There's no relation between adequate and normalcy.

They are demanding it on the basis that there is water that municipality can regulate.
