Logical Reasoning - Statement and Assumption - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Statement and Assumption - Section 5 (Q.No. 1)
Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by three assumptions numbered I, II and III. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions, decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement and choose your answer accordingly.

1.

Statement: "Wanted a two bedroom flat in the court area for immediate possession." - An advertisement.

Assumptions:

  1. Flats are available in court area.
  2. Some people will respond to the advertisement.
  3. It is a practice to give such an advertisement.

All are implicit
Only II is implicit
None is implicit
Only I and II are implicit
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The advertisement depicts only the requirement, not the availability of flats in court area. So, I is not implicit. Such advertisements are given with the expectation of a response which can make such a flat available. So, II is implicit. Assumption III does not follow from the statement and so is not implicit.

Here is specified the word [ wanting ].

People want so many things but it does, not mean that what someone want is available for them so 1 is wrong therefor answer is B.

If 1. is false, i.e. no flats are available, then 2. would also be false. If no flats are available then who would respond?

Answer is [D].

Since flats are available they gave advertisement. A/c to the advertisement interested will respond.

I think here only is implicit as without having flat no one will give advertisement.

@Bablu and @Kasinath.
Agreed. I AND II are both true, or both false.

D is right, if 1 is not true then why assume someone will respond?
