Each question given below consists of a statement, followed by two arguments numbered I and II. You have to decide which of the arguments is a 'strong' argument and which is a 'weak' argument.

  • (A) If only argument I is strong
  • (B) If only argument II is strong
  • (C) If either I or II is strong
  • (D) If neither I nor II is strong and
  • (E) If both I and II are strong.

Statement: Should new universities be established in India?

Arguments:

  1. No. We have still not achieved the target for literacy.
  2. No. We will have to face the problem of unemployed but highly qualified people.
Only argument I is strong
Only argument II is strong
Either I or II is strong
Neither I nor II is strong
Both I and II are strong
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, instead of improving upon higher education, increasing the literacy rate should be heeded first. So, argument I holds. Also, more number of universities will produce more degree holders with the number of jobs remaining the same, thus increasing unemployment. So, argument II also holds strong.

Yes for sure first is crap, but the argument 2 is valid as, new universities will increase the number of graduate and indeed increase unemployment, even today with a handful number of universities we face the problem of unemployment than its for sure that a new university will for sure add number to unemployment sector.

According to me answer B is more suitable as with increase in universities result in skilled people with unemployed status if development of other resources which consume these people are not build. How the target of literacy affected (It is possible in the case when number of literate people is very less to register in universities so opening new universities is a vague idea in this case E is correct) answer is totally depend on what assumption we make for the given argument.
