Directions to Solve

Each question given below consists of a statement, followed by two arguments numbered I and II. You have to decide which of the arguments is a 'strong' argument and which is a 'weak' argument.

Give answer:

  • (A) If only argument I is strong
  • (B) If only argument II is strong
  • (C) If either I or II is strong
  • (D) If neither I nor II is strong and
  • (E) If both I and II are strong.

Statement: Should new universities be established in India?

Arguments:

  1. No. We have still not achieved the target for literacy.
  2. No. We will have to face the problem of unemployed but highly qualified people.
Only argument I is strong
Only argument II is strong
Either I or II is strong
Neither I nor II is strong
Both I and II are strong
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, instead of improving upon higher education, increasing the literacy rate should be heeded first. So, argument I holds. Also, more number of universities will produce more degree holders with the number of jobs remaining the same, thus increasing unemployment. So, argument II also holds strong.

According to me answer B is more suitable as with increase in universities result in skilled people with unemployed status if development of other resources which consume these people are not build. How the target of literacy affected (It is possible in the case when number of literate people is very less to register in universities so opening new universities is a vague idea in this case E is correct) answer is totally depend on what assumption we make for the given argument.

Yes for sure first is crap, but the argument 2 is valid as, new universities will increase the number of graduate and indeed increase unemployment, even today with a handful number of universities we face the problem of unemployment than its for sure that a new university will for sure add number to unemployment sector.

How can answer A suit the argument? Because the statement indirectly mean to say that if In case it becomes such a condition that we could never attain that amount of literacy, than acc to statement we could never be able to open a university, so that make the argument vague. I would mark B as the answer.

It is not necessary that opening of new universities will not help in improving the higher education.

Also, it does not mean that if the universities will impart education to more no of people, we do not train our manpower only because of the threat that it will increase unemployment.

Also increasing university means increasing more education and ideas in society which ultimately going to lead into raising employment in society.

Just for a vague threat of increasing unemployment we can deny increasing demand of education with increasing population.

First of all, there is no relation between the establishment of universities and achievement of literacy target. And the second argument is also illogical. So both are weak.

1. Literacy level will increase by universities.
2. Also if at all people doesn't study do they get employment? so both are week.

First is crap, isn't justifying the no tag, second is again a presumptuous and probably false conclusion!

The answer should be option D.
As no other info is given in the statement about literacy and employment.

Option D is the correct answer as both arguments are not qualifying for the statement intentions.
