Logical Reasoning - Number Series - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Number Series - Type 1 (Q.No. 9)
Directions to Solve
In each series, look for the degree and direction of change between the numbers. In other words, do the numbers increase or decrease, and by how much

9.
Look at this series: 8, 22, 8, 28, 8, ... What number should come next?
9
29
32
34
Answer: Option
Explanation:
This is a simple addition series with a random number, 8, interpolated as every other number. In the series, 6 is added to each number except 8, to arrive at the next number.

From my analysis, the sequence begins with the number 8. It is increased by 14 to reach the next number, which is 22, and then decreased by 14 to return to the initial number, 8.

Similarly, the fourth number is incremented by 20 and then decremented by 20 in the subsequent number. It is evident that, except for 8, each sequential number in the sequence follows a pattern of increasing by multiples of 6 (14, 20, 26, 32.).

So the correct answer is 8 + 26 = 34.

Hi,

First we take first two no.s those are 8,22 substract these two then we get -14.

After that we take next two no.s in sequence those are 22,8 substract these two then we get +14.

After that we take next two no.s in sequence those are 8,28 substract these two then we get -18.

After that we take next two no.s in sequence those are 28,8 substract these two then we get +18.then we get next no. is -14.

In a way we are given only two terms 22 and 28 which are not enough to carve out the logic of the series because there may be other relations between 22 and 28 other than +6 (e.g multiply unit digit by 4 and add carry if any to tens digit and so on or any other such logic). Hence at least one more term should have been given.

6 and 8 are common here (28 - 22 = 6). Find the difference between the first two numbers i.e. 22 - 8 = 14. The sum of the difference i.e 14 + the sum of the two common numbers i.e 6 + 8 gives 28, that is it.

28 - 8 = 20; 6 + 8 + 20 = 34,

34 - 8 = 26; 6 + 8 + 26 = 40,

40 - 8 = 32; 6 + 8 + 32 = 46.

It is easy to reach . Because 8 is common number. we have to calculate other than number of ( 22 & 28 ) = 28-22= 6 > So we should use 6 .
22+6= 28
28+6=34 .
So next number should be 34 .

The right answer is D, 34 as 8 is common in the series.

22-8 = 14.

14+6 = 20. 6 is taken as constant now

8+20 = 28.

Now, 20+6 = 26. Constant 6.

8+26 = 34.

Hi Paulson,

As you will see that 8 is common and 22+6=28, just like that if we want next number of this series so we should add 28+6=34.

8 is common so we should alternative numbers that is 22 28.

Should subtract 28-22 = 6,
that should be added to 22 + 6 = 28,
28+6 = 34.

8 is common so the series is 22,28 ?
28-22=6 it means 6 is added in 22
To get another number we will add 6 in 28
Means 28+6=34

Here every time 6 is added in the number come's after 8 .first add 6 in 22 result come 28, then if we add 6 in 28 then result come 34.
