Logical Reasoning - Number Series - Discussion
Discussion Forum : Number Series - Type 2 (Q.No. 17)
Directions to Solve
Look carefully for the pattern, and then choose which pair of numbers comes next.
17.
4 8 22 12 16 22 20 24
Answer: Option
Explanation:
This is an alternating repetition series, with a random number, 22, interpolated as every third number into an otherwise simple addition series. In the addition series, 4 is added to each number to arrive at the next number.

I didn't got the answer because 22 28 here difference is of 6 not of 4.

22, interpolated as every third number
4*2=8
4*3=12
4*4=16
4*5=20
4*6=24
4*7=28
4*2=8
4*3=12
4*4=16
4*5=20
4*6=24
4*7=28

I think the answer must be E because the differance is 4 in between each digits and 22 is interpolated.

Another way.
22, interpolated as every third number.
So,
4+4 = 8.
8+4 = 12.
12+4 = 16.
16+4 = 20.
20+4 = 24.
24+4 = 28.
So answer is 28.
22, interpolated as every third number.
So,
4+4 = 8.
8+4 = 12.
12+4 = 16.
16+4 = 20.
20+4 = 24.
24+4 = 28.
So answer is 28.

Answer,
4+0 = 4.
4+4 = 8.
(22).
8+4 = 12.
12+4 = 16.
(22).
16+4 = 20.
20+4 = 24.
Then first 22.
24+4 = 28 The answer is 22&28.
28+4 = 32.
(22) so on...
4+0 = 4.
4+4 = 8.
(22).
8+4 = 12.
12+4 = 16.
(22).
16+4 = 20.
20+4 = 24.
Then first 22.
24+4 = 28 The answer is 22&28.
28+4 = 32.
(22) so on...

4*2 = 8.
4*3 = 12.
4*4 = 16.
4*5 = 20.
4*6 = 24.
4*7 = 28.
4*8 = 32 So answer is 28&32.
4*3 = 12.
4*4 = 16.
4*5 = 20.
4*6 = 24.
4*7 = 28.
4*8 = 32 So answer is 28&32.

I think the answer is A.
There many assumptions in solving this sum.
But the first thing that stroke me was interpolating 22 and adding 8.
4+8=12.
8+8=16.
12+8=20.
16+8=24.
20+8=28.
And so the answer probably could be 22 28.

@John Ajay- I agree! There is adequate reason for both A and C - both indeed are correct for the simple reason of adding 8. Poor test/answer system if you ask me!
