Logical Reasoning - Number Series - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Number Series - Type 2 (Q.No. 15)
Directions to Solve
Look carefully for the pattern, and then choose which pair of numbers comes next.

15.
61 57 50 61 43 36 61
29 61
27 20
31 61
22 15
29 22
Answer: Option
Explanation:
This is an alternating repetition series, in which a random number, 61, is interpolated as every third number into an otherwise simple subtraction series. Starting with the second number, 57, each number (except 61) is 7 less than the previous number.

I think Option b & d can also be correct one. Because they have difference = 7.

Then why you have chosen E as your answer?

@Harshal:

We have to find "which pair of numbers comes next (given direction)".

Given: [61] 57 50 [61] 43 36 [61] __ __ and so on.

57 - 7 = 50
50 - 7 = 43
43 - 7 = 36
36 - 7 = 29 (Required number)
29 - 7 = 22 (Required number)
22 - 7 = 15
15 - 7 = 08 ... and so on.

I hope you understand. Have a nice day!

Third of three: 23 23 28..

Guys,

I guess there are two trends which are prominent in the data set.
One- Is explained above and has been termed as right answer.

The other one is as below:

61
57 61-57 -4.
50 57-50 -7.
61 50-61 11 (Its the sum of prev two differences).
43 61-43 -18.
36 43-36 -7.
61 36-61 25 (Its the sum of prev two differences).
27 61-27 -34.
20 27-20 -7.
61 20-61 41 (Its the sum of prev two differences).

Correct Answer through this method: 27 20.

Find the given series in an direction.
The pair is 29, 22

How means,
61 57 50 61 43 36 61.
61-57 = 4.
(adding 7 of each ans.).
61-50 = 11.
61-43 = 18.
61-36 = 25.
61-(29) = 32.
61-(22) = 39.

(or)

In series you take 3 no.s.

Difference b/n 57&50 with respect to 43 &36 is 14.

43-14 = 29.
36-14 = 22.
Pair is(29 22).
