Discussion Forum : Logical Deduction - Section 1 (Q.No. 5)
Directions to Solve

In each question below are given two statements followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to take the given two statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. Read the conclusion and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the two given statements, disregarding commonly known facts.

Give answer:

  • (A) If only conclusion I follows
  • (B) If only conclusion II follows
  • (C) If either I or II follows
  • (D) If neither I nor II follows and
  • (E) If both I and II follow.

5.

Statements: Some doctors are fools. Some fools are rich.

Conclusions:

  1. Some doctors are rich
  2. Some rich are doctors.
Only conclusion I follows
Only conclusion II follows
Either I or II follows
Neither I nor II follows
Both I and II follow
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Since both the premises are particular, no definite conclusion follows.

By venn diagram option should be E.

If its definite answer then fine, he it says some doctors are rich. Which is possible as per venn diagram.

Venn diagram can be made in different ways, but when we say no there should be no exclusion to it. Even if once of the diagrams show an option, then we must go with it.

We can solve without venn diagram, so fools is mediator in statement first and second statement, so conclusion will be "some doctors are rich".

It will be option E by Venn diagram.

I will prefer option E probably.

D is perfectly right- Neither I nor II follows. We should know for sure, that the conclusion follows all the time. We can not say for sure, that some of the doctors are rich, nor that some rich are doctors because the probability is really low that the doctors who are fools are also rich.

Some doctor is fools and some fools are rich.

But it's not mentioned which part of fools are rich so it can be concluded that some doctors who are fools also can be part of fools that are rich.

So, I think the answer can be the option (A).
