Logical Reasoning - Logical Deduction - Discussion
Discussion Forum : Logical Deduction - Section 2 (Q.No. 3)
Directions to Solve
In each of the following questions, two statements are given followed by three or four conclusions numbered I, II, III and IV. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from the commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements disregarding commonly known facts.
3.
Statements: All aeroplanes are trains. Some trains are chairs.
Conclusions:
- Some aeroplanes are chairs.
- Some chairs are aeroplanes.
- Some chairs are trains.
- Some trains are aeroplanes.
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Since the middle term 'trains' is not distributed even once in the/premises, no definite conclusion follows. However, III is the converse of the second premise while IV is the converse of the first premise. So, both of them hold.

No conclusion should be there as a middle term is not distributed in even one of the premises. And both options 2 & 3 contain the middle term, therefore both are invalid.

a) all air are trains it means that some trains are air.
b) all air are train all train are chair.
So all air are chair.

My thinking as follows:
Some trains are chairs equals some chairs are trains, equals some aeroplanes are chairs (i);
Then some chairs are aeroplanes is also right, (i) reversed;
Then, in conclusions, the question itself has an error.
