It's a great topic to discuss whether "India should follow a one-child policy or not. ".
Based on the population growth it is the policy of one child can be obeyed but when we think about a family of minimum 4 members it is a small family. If we implement a one-child policy, a child feel bored alone at home without siblings. Always siblings are the best companions and friends with whom we can share everything.
It has both positive and negative edges so few considerations must be taken before implementing the policy.
Thank you.

Rather than a one-child policy, India should go for not more than two child policy.
I strongly agree with the fact that increased population causes many problems but having only one child will also create some small issues. A child will not have any siblings. He/she will be unaware of the love and bonding that a sibling shares. In childhood, if jis/her parents are busy in some work and they leave the children home, he will feel very lonely, he will not have anyone to play with him/her.
In fact, in 2014 a law has been passed in some states for not having more than two children.
Having children is a family personal matter and if the government is imposing any policy then the family may also not feel good about it for one child policy but they can consider the two child policy.
Apart from this policy, proper education should be given to family especially women of the house for proper family planning. So that the population can be controlled in an affected manner.
It is predicted that by 2025 India will cross the population of China which is a matter of serious concern and something needs to be done.
So, two child policy can be accepted by families rather than one child policy.
Thank you.
Have a great day ahead.

Population control is a big concern for a country like India which is stifled under the rapidly expanding number of people. But I don't think implementing a one child policy will be the exact solution to this complication. Sachin Tendulkar was the sixth child of his parents. Imagine that if we had a one child policy, India would have lost her God of cricket. So each and every human resource in this Earth is precious. Neither of us are destined to deliberately hold their breathe. Rising population can be dealt with the sustainable use of resources. I strongly believe in the strength of our earth. Rather than colonising the space, we should take effort to make this planet hospitable to many more species that can flourish endlessly.

China is well known for having instituted a one-child policy back in 1979. While the policy was effective in stemming population growth, critics argue that the side effects of the policy have created many societal problems in China today.
In a country like India, population planning can only be achieved by formulating and implementing a strong policy, particularly among less educated women. Women should be encouraged so that they can learn about family planning. Obviously, women\'s empowerment has to be the central theme in population planning policies.
Another fact is that, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, achieved declines of fertility without a one-child policy. These two states maintained healthy sex ratio without one child policy.
One child policy cannot be implemented in India in the same way as in China, education and persuasion methods are appropriate and necessary.
Therefore, education about family planning is necessary to control population growth. No need to implement one child policy.
In 2014, 12 Indian states have passed laws to restrict Indian citizens from having no more than two children.

Education is more important than Law!
No such law should be implemented but people should be educated about the cause of the population.
It is true that almost all of the problem we are facing one or the other way related to population.

I think India needs a one-child policy at least for next 10 years to reduce population growth. It is need for the survival of human being and the eco system of nature.
Human consumption is damaging natural eco system because human survival need chemical use in 90% of their daily need and chemical is not natural product.
Soil quality becomes poor, tempature is increasing due water consumtion from soil. Agri production is full of pesticide, milk adultration is fact and many more reasons are due to over demand which comes from over population. We all responsible citizen of this country should support 1 child policy.

Hello everyone.
Growing population is really a concerning matter for our country.
Educated people do understand the growing risk of population increase, but the illiterate or people who don't understand why birth control is necessary should be taught about its importance.
Awareness camps shall be arranged and creative ways shall be put together to attract people to attend camps. Rather than imposing a one-child or two-child policy the government as well as the citizens shall make other people aware about the need to use birth control measures.
Because having 1, 2 or more child, this decision depends upon the person. The interference of government in this matter would lead to a conflict between citizens and the government.
We all should take an initiative to make others aware about this rather than pin-pointing the government or the people around you.
Thank you.

There are many aspects of this topic! India needs a single child policy. India is suffering from a lot of severe crises and a loss in agriculture. Economical. Educational. Health sectors and so on. There are many reasons for it and population growth is the main one.
The lesser population will tend to the proper utilization of resources and will balance the growth and consumption of the country but on the other side, the one-child policy is quite negotiable because of various factors. Gender equality is something that would be highly affected. In India, a boy child is always given a priority and if we will adopt a one-child policy it would definitely lead to abortions and gender imbalances. This thought would also need to be taken into consideration.

Yes, India need one child policy, because India is 7th largest country and 2nd populated country so population density is so high here no place for other animals also.
All developed countries are developed because of WW1 and WW2 they increase their knowledge, learn to optimize resources and know the meaning of population control.
In India 130cr people but all are not working for country lots of is just doing nothing so we can say more young people means more growth. Even govt can not supply food, hospital, education to 130cr people.
We need to come closer to population density as developed country.

No. I would prefer that India can follow a policy to have 2-3 children but not more than that. I can't say this rule of thumb can be across all segments of society viz. , rich, middle class and poorer sections uniformly. All depends on the affordability of parents to provide quality education and life to their children. In turn, the risks in having one child are many, like social, health, financial, education, employment related issues. What if the single child is handicapped or goes astray when grows old? We have also experience gender related issues in our country. Today, the expectations and lifestyles of new generation are changing very fast, to the detriment of the parents. Such gaps are very difficult to manage and families get ruined. I can go on and on.
