To let sleeping dogs lie means 'To leave things as they are'. But we cannot let the things as they are because by the time our needs are changing, demand for things are increasing and cost of living a decent life is increasing, we have work more and make others who are bearing responsibility also work more. So we have to interfere.

As we know human have great tendency to exempt themselves from work. Every one want to get more and more output with less work input. Most of Politicians of our country are lazy and corrupt, they don't do work properly themselves and also don't let others do things right way and they often try to avoid investigation in their work by misusing their power. So we have to interfere and make them work honestly or remove them, 'we cannot let the sleeping dog just lie'.

Also in every organization, there is always a supervision on a person whether he is topmost or lowermost authority to make organization work efficiently and smoothly. So if you want to progress you have to interfere in most of the cases.

"We cannot let the sleeping dog just lie".

In the short term it may look beneficial if we just let those who are idle to be so. For instance in a corporate if you find a colleague of yours to be dormant, it might think it to be beneficial within the team as they may not be a competitor for you in terms of appraisal and increment. You may even be appraised higher than your ability because of the comparative performance with someone whose is idle. This will lead to a false impression about your abilities. Thus when you switch jobs or move to other teams, you may find the situation to be different and difficult to cope with if the new team has active, diligent and prudent associates. Unlike the old team where you were considered to be the exemplar, the same may not be the case here as well. Now you may find yourself to be deprived or dejected when you do not get a good appraisal as your team mates are equally competent or even better than you. So it is always better to create a healthy and competent environment at work by encouraging our idle and dormant colleagues and setting a tough goal for ourself.

The idiom let sleeping dogs lie means not to stir up old conflicts or provoke an argument over unresolved issues. It is often better to agree to disagree and move forward rather than trigger hostilities over an ongoing difference of opinion. Let sleeping dogs lie refers to the instinctive behavior of a dog whenever it is awakened suddenly from a nap. Many dogs instinctively lash out at those who try to awaken them without reason, and these natural responses are often quite painful.

One example of the idiom in action would be a heated discussion between a man and wife over an unpaid bill. While the issue itself may be relatively minor, it could bring up painful memories of a previous fight over household finances. Instead of provoking or escalating the argument, both might agree to let sleeping dogs lie and not remind each other of the previous fight unnecessarily. Dredging up a provocative or painful issue from the past would not help to resolve the current situation, so both sides agree not to discuss it.

Hello Friends,

I agree with you all to some extent but in my view, we can't let sleeping dogs lie because this modern era is very competitive and to achieve something we all have to run in this race. In every field we know that teamwork leads to a better output so have you ever think that what if we let the sleeping dogs lie or leave the inactive person in the state they want to?

Simply we will get a wide variance between the expected output and the output we got.

So, it's better to motivate the sleeping dogs or the inactive person to actively take part in this race instead of relying on luck.

MAKE THE SLEEPING DOGS A CONTRIBUTOR, MOTIVATOR, AND ACTIVE.

Becoz in this democratic country every individual is equally responsible for the good and bad condition so small loopholes like inactiveness of individuals can make the country to suffer.

We all know that PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. So, it's better to awaken those sleeping dogs than to lie.

Here sleeping dogs refer to the people who are inactive in their life. The statement tells that we should leave those people on their own.

I totally disagree with this. Their may be strong reasons for those people to be inactive. May be they never had enough opportunities in life or they never had been motivated. So instead of letting them sleep, the high achievers or the active people should help those poor souls. Its our moral duty. May be, by a little act of help or motivation can change their entire life.

Achievements come in life by combination of hard work and luck. If the luck is missing then it leads to depression and discouragement and even hard workers can become lazy and inactive. So the cause of discouragement should be identified and the person should be helped out in every possible way.

Regards!!

"Let the Sleeping dogs lie". Well who wants to invite difficult situations in his/hers life?If you don't then it's better not to interfere in things which escalates your problems. "Sleeping dog" is symbolic of the matters which are not causing you harm presently but it may if you try to open it i.e. awakening the dog from it's deep slumber.

This would simply hamper one's state of mind which would result in hampering of work, health etc, as a disturbed mind disturbs the whole system. One should be always focused in one's work and work hard to make that work perfect so that results are fruitful. We don't need to waste our precious time and energy in something which matters nothing to us at the moment. Just live in your present and work for the betterment of future.

From reading this thread, it seems that none of you are dog owners. My pet dog is very loving. However, when she is sleeping and I accidentally awaken her, I might end up losing a toe to her startled fangs. This is how the expression "let sleeping dogs lie" began. It does not refer to people who are lazy.

It refers to what might happen to one if one brings up a problematic subject that no one is particularly worried about at the moment or that has already been settled. By reawakening others to an old problem, one might get bitten on the proverbial toe. In other words, one may create more trouble for oneself by bringing up a sore subject then by letting it sleep peacefully as does the dog at my foot- until I accidentally bump that foot into her.

Let sleeping dogs lie, "let them sleep" unless they don't create Turbulence in our life and while we are talking about our inactive Politicians then don't let them sleep. A simple question arises out from the above statement, "How we bring the change in our country" now don't say guys by voting because either you give your vote or not winning politician do what they want to do but not according to you.

In India after independence still basic amenities are not fulfill by politician. Females are not safe in our country they do not move freely just because of the poor management of our government. Last but not the least India is not 24hrs and I feel pity, when I see other developed countries run their service sector 24*7*365 at night also.

Yeah, maybe you all are correct in your way. But for me you should not let the sleeping dog lie. Because nowadays I have seen my friends in my class who are not interactive in our class sessions but they have very good knowledge than others who are active in our class. And unfortunately partiality begins here. It has become a trend that if you are active then you will get every facilities and attention of the teacher. But in my opinion, every people in class should get some attention from a teacher. Who knows the dumb person would become the proud of your institute. So in my perspective, it should not happen. And no one should be dominated.
