Is Management an Art or a Science?

Management is a combination of Science and art. Modern business management systems relies and depends on information or knowledge which is science and the success of the organisation in this highly competitive and complex nature of business requires handling of business operations with skills and foresight to avoid crisis which is an art.

I think Management is an art as well as science also because, while doing the work in management field you are both types of thinking or process are used. We are used in emotionally, psychologically it is also art to handle the persons.

Management takes a dual process of both art and science, when PLANNING, he/she need some statistical data to enhance him/her project in to the future, procuring data has to do with science.

When COORDINATING his/her work force (employees) , he/she needs that human relation skills, to be able to achieve the planned goals and objectives, and this has to do with art.

Conducting a feasibility study or market research need science technique and the ability to implement and sustained this result, the management needs art techniques.

Hi. Management is both science and art because it uses art on one side, and it simply applies science in other places.

Management is an art because it really needs knowledge and skill whereas as a science it really needs an observation and experiments, therefore I regard management as an art.

Management is both in my opinion. It is a science because systematic procedures are used in managerial activities and it's an art as it involves creative as well as innovative activities in its processes.

I think management has elements of both art and science. It may not be proper to term it as pure science or pure art. In fact, it is a science as well as an art because science and art are both complementary to each other. As cossa has said, "science requires art, art requires science, each being complementary to each other". It may be concluded that there is no hard and fast line between art and science of management.

The former(science) will have to solve problems and establish principles which might be applied with benefit to the latter(art). The present ratio is about 90% art and 10% science. Though a very great deal of developments are presently increasing that proportion which can properly be called science. I am willing to venture a guess that by the end of another generation the ratio will be 80% art and perhaps 20% science. ".

Management as science relates when making observation of experimental as well as making monitoring evaluation and management as arts when deciding to choose suitable conceptual during decision making.

In my views, management is both science and art. Science gives us knowledgeable principles and art gives us skill to apply it.

As an art:
Under 'art' one normally learns how of a phenomenon which requires Practical knowledge and Management is an art of getting things done through people which is manages by the manager .

An a Science:
As Science is an organised , systematic knowledge. A discipline can be called scientific if methods of inquiry are empirical . So management involves above things in it.
