I think that to pace up with the running world we have to transform our mindset. Instead of looking at the darker side we can also have a glance of the brighter side. Wearing jeans, t-shirt and other foreign clothes, aren't they a threat to our culture. We couldn't compete USA. Just by copying their modern lifestyle. We should also try to have modern thought like them.

Before broaching the subject I think it would be wise to remember that the reason English shows are becoming more popular in our country is the lack of hyped up drama scenes (except for shows that actually belong to that genre).

Secondly, it may be correct to say that the shows a person watches tend to affect his or her mindset, however in the end it depends on the viewer's personal discretion or a child's parents decisions whether or not a particular program is healthy for viewing. I agree that Indian culture is at the opposite end of American culture.

In fact in my opinion, even though we have our faults, as a whole, the country is good. As for creativity, it seems that most of the shows, in our country have become repetitive and the standards have gone to the dogs. Earlier, when we used to have weekly shows on Doordarshan (like the prime time shows in US) , it allowed for better scripts, character development and plots.

Concepts also seem to have taken a backstage. Production houses today, are going with the tried and tested formula of what seems to work with the masses, which is sadly a relentless drone of melodrama. Also, when directors do try to send a better message to the people of our country, most people tend to not focus on it, due to the glamorization of antagonistic roles. The television today in India could play a pivotal role in the development of society.

However it is necessary also, to maintain a harmony between public awareness, education and entertainment factor. As for corruption of culture by foreign shows comes into play, need anything be said about the type of statements made on certain comedy shows, or the somehow stupid argument that Hindi movies have to have a item song, which has a crass tune, pathetic musical arrangement and lyrics, along with offensive videos. Shows such as the blacklist or many others may not send a public message, and it isn't necessary that every show does.

Because there's just a time when you need to unwind after a hard day's work and watch something funny. But that doesn't mean it has to have double meanings like most our Hindi movies, or have to have slapstick comedy either. The immense popularity of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai proves this. Also, nobody says this, but its probably time that certain shows end. I mean, some shows are humiliating and portray Indian police in bad light.

Our police don't repeat the same sentence over and over 10 times just for dramatic effect. They are in fact brave, and very intelligent, however the characters portrayed in a few shows are stupid and dumb. Also, the plots just keep on getting worse. Mantras? Bhoots? Either make an intelligent cop show like crime patrol or criminal minds or castle, or just don't make one. Indian audiences are intelligent.

However in some shows, the directors feel the need of over explaining things, as though the Indian popularization able to place two and two together. Make TV intelligent. Make morally responsible shows which are also entertaining.

Indian culture can never be destroyed by any so called foreign channels.

Its based on people and how they take it.

If something inapprophiate is seen, it is his/her duty to switch over and where that is not possible there is feature in probably in every TV sets "THE PARENTAL LOCK".

I really don't think so that a 14 year old would ever find the password. ;-).

There is always problems in life but overcomining those problems is the beauty of life.

Well hello guys I feel that Indian culture is getting ruined just because of how we Indians are taking the matter into consideration as we are not taking a negative aspect as a negative aspect.

Eg: If a hero is smoking, drinking, ruining a woman's life our youngsters feel that they should make all those activities to become a hero. So even though the foreign channels do not affect directly but they are indirectly affecting the Indian culture and heritage.

I completely disagree with that foreign TV is destroying over. It is true very interesting serial, movie and documentary leaves its influence in memory. But It depends on a person how does he assume and react.

Because every type aspects are available around us. But it does not mean we follow all scenarios and implement in our life. Culture is art of living, it depends on you how do you make it better.

Wise people said that people do what they think and what they watch. But this is not right to blame that foreign channels are destroying our culture. Because people should become responsible that what they are watching. This depends on people that what they are watching and what they want to watch. Foreign channels are showing their own culture and there are many good things which we can learn from them. And if we talk about bad things then Indian channels are also playing their role. Some Indian serials are more responsible for family conflicts than foreign channels.

But I also want to mention here that parents should keep an eye on their children that what they are watching. Because they are innocent and do not know the difference between right or wrong. So parents should guide them to watch good programs. And there are also many knowledge and science based foreign channels like discovery and animal planet and channels based on food cooking etc which explore new and creative things to people's minds and enhancing our knowledge.

Change is law of nature. Today we do not have the same tradition, values and beliefs which we had thousand years ago. And if we are changing our culture to great extent then foreign channels are not only responsible. There are many other causes of it too. Blaming foreign channels in particular is not right.

Hi guys,

I think that foreign channels in no way destroying our culture. It is up to us what we want to accept and what not. There are many channels which help us in many ways to improve our communication skills, to expand our knowledge and to keep pace with the growing advancement in technologies.

If something is right and will help us then why to hesitate in accepting it. Please tell me is it really possible for us to wear dhoti-kurta and work for whole day.

At last. Our culture is best and it is not so weak to be destroyed so easily.

Some channels who display discovery/invention/technology are not destroying our culture they improve our knowledge.

But some other channels who display homosexuality/other bad contents are certainly destroying our culture. Our eyes and ears are input device for our brain, the data that enters in brain will be surely affecting the person, we can't ignore that. And kids don't even know what to keep and what to discard.

Remember the topic of this GD was "whether foreign channels are destroying our culture" and not who else is responsible for this, so do not divert from the topic indeed some channels are responsible.

Guys you people done well. But, what I wanna say is foreign channels are just like tide. When it is coming before to us if we will be there we will be die. But if we move aside we will be safe. Just, like that if we watch any vulgar stuff it will disturb us. If we ignore it we will be safe. So, it is not channels mistake they have right to exhibit there culture. It's our fault of misusing it.
