The fact is their are many NGOs who rob people in the name of donations to disabled people and orphans. This NGOs collect crores of rupees from various institutions. Despite this we can still see no improvement in those people. This is due to lack of information about where this NGOs spend the money collected and what part of money is actually spent and where.
NGOs should be encouraged not just by donating money but also by volunteering to carry out helping activities.

NGOs work for poor and I have seen NGO's working for poor.
I am also part of a NGO working for poor student in Uttarakhand.
This NGO provides fees, free dress and books to poor children.
This NGO also work for poor senior citizen, because in uttarakhand, It is a big problem, young people leave village to earn from big city but unfortunately never come back and their parents are there in hills without any support.
As some people said NGO's are mainly to save tax.
But the founder of this organization is a poor shopkeeper in Uttarakhand region and get money from the his friends, family and some generous people.
My personal experience is there some genuine people who work but there are a lot of people who takes advantage of this.

NGO's are working in INDIA very properly and with all dedication.
NGOs are doing their work with all their efforts and resources available to them.
Mother Teresa who worked for the orphan children, didn't work for the money. Nana Patekar who donated his 90% of the earning to the charity& worked for the farmers.
NGOs do the work which governments should do.
I would just say NGOs are "by the people, for the people, of the people".

I think NGO is a business like any other business. Most of the NGO start collecting money after December because they know in few months people will fix tax returns and so they may be looking for tax exemption 80g, etc.
NGOs collect money from people then deduct their expenses like salary of people working in NGO, office supply charges, electricity charges, telephone charges, travel charges, etc like any other company and the remaining amount goes to the needy person. If you donate Rs 100 then may be 50% or more is consumed by NGO itself. However, NGO creates awareness among people that there are needy people who may benefit from the charity.
80g or any tax exemption in the name of donation is not useful in saving money from tax. Actually, donation means giving away your money so there is no saving. If you do math you will understand what I am saying. Best thing is to identify who is the needy person and directly give him help to avoid overhead cost of NGO. There is no doubt that people make their living by creating NGOs.

Hello! this is sujoy. By functional defination, a NGO is conserned with the provision of relief to poor, medical and education - an organisation which is operating without seeking any profit. They obtain sizable amount of donations from different parts of society in exchange of promise to utilise them for above stated purpose. Realising this noble work executed by the NGO, Govt grant them relief from any taxation libility. But the actual picture is completely different in the sense that some persons utilise this as a umbrella to escape from the taxation liability. How this is possible ? say, Mr. X, being promoter of NGO, received his personal income in the name of NGO and utilise them for own benefit by way of showing this as expenses incurred for general/common benefit. This mechanisim will get him escape from tax obligation.
So, in most of the cases, persons, strongly related with NGO are benefited at the cost of society's welfare.

As already explained by many above, basically a NGO takes financial help from society so as to use them to help the needy people fight poverty, illiteracy etc. In return government exempt them from taxes. I personally know my college friends who are running a NGO to educate hapeless children. They started it with the help of college friends and as days passed by they are working on a huge scale and doing very well for the betterment of poor children in Karnatak & Jharkhand. Super 30 batch being run by Ex-IPS officer in Bihar is also a kind of NGO teaching poor children for IIT-entrance.
On the basis of above two examples I can say that there are some NGOs in India which are doing justice to their motto and actually helping the needy ones.

Good evening everyone.
I believe that NGOs are a boon for the poor and the society, they are formed by the people who want to help and give back to society. NGOs enable citizens to work together voluntarily to promote social values and civic goals, which are important to them. As we all know that in today's competitive environment not everyone gets equal opportunities and here NGOs actually come in, it helps in addressing the issues that are prevailing in the society and helps to solve these issues. I do believe that yes NGOs in India really work for others.
Thank you.

I think its a good topic for group discussion around us we can see so many ngo's working for people. Their aim is to build a corruption less country, help to senior citizens, education to children, unemployment. As you know nothing is 100% perfect some of the leaders of ngo's using the name of ngo grabbing money from the donations which people have given for disabled people, orphans. So people must be educate about where the ngo's are spending money and how and why. Building a golden nation is everyone's aim, join your hands & help the people by working as a volunteer in ngo.

Doesn't matter whether a NGO is giving 100 % or less but the positive point is that the NGO's are doing for the society i.e. educating, helping senior citizens, health sector, etc. So, its good that there are some very good Ngo's in the country and those which are not that good and making money is also in some or another way contributing but certainly things would change if every Ngo will do what it supposed to do.
Positive thing is that constant welfare of society with a slow rate or fast depends on the generosity of the various Ngo's towards their work.
