Democracy is Hampering India's Progress

I think Democracy in India has become a big Question mark in everyone's mind. Is it democracy is all about participating in elections once in every 5 years and then expecting government (or that x number of politicians) to run the show?

India's development not failing due to democracy, India's democracy as a whole failing due to corrupted people at every level of society. May be some economic numbers on the charts do show that India as a developing country since 50 years but I can't imagine any era where it can change its status from developing to developed without changing individual's attitude towards the society.

Until we teach our kids about treating every other person as a human being, until we learn ourselves to be example for the next generations, until we hold the urge to give bribe to speed up things in government offices, until we as a society (every Individual) learns to restore the lost morals in corruption; we will be keep reading those sudden company shutdowns, we will be keep reading news about deaths of people, we will be keep reading news about child abuse and hell lot.

A country development doesn't mean rupee Vs dollar, democratic country's development truly relies in its people ability to breath without fear, people in the country need not to rob the other for their survival, until this society as a whole learns to treat each individual with respect by killing all that cast system.

Democracy is a very diplomatic term to comment about.

On one hand it is like a curse for India in form of corruption, unemployment, scams,

Poverty etc. Because what democracy gives us after 66 years of independence is a 'gang' of illiterate and corrupted ministers who are ready to do any kind of scams for their welfare, agencies like CBI, IT DEPARTMENT, SALES TAX DEPARTMENT who are independent organizations only on paper but works only on the guidelines of corrupted ministers. Politicians who divide country on religion basis only to full their vote banks and there are 'n' number of reasons one can give to curse democracy.

But on the other hand we are too fortunate we are living in democratic country like India. Because only democracy can provide us equal rights and duties. In India the involvement of government in personal and religious beliefs is negligible. Government provide equal right to every person to survive as per their customs. Because personally I can not tolerate a government like China which decide how much children I can gave birth or to take permission from government to gave birth to an extra child.

So, finally what I concluded is that no government or country is perfect. It is the responsibility of citizens to make their country perfect.

India is not a true democratic country because here are reserved seats for SC, OBC and ST why they are getting special treatment. They were exploited in past but not now.

In a democratic country, the development will be slow, decision-making process will be slow but people have a right to overrule the decision, you have the right to ask questions. In dictatorship decision making process will n if the decision is good then development will also grow fastest because you don't have to ask each n every person opinion on making a decision. But people don't have the right to overule it, or questions it, they have to accept the policy with both tied on their back.

Democracy is hampering India's progress. India is such a beautiful and secular country but it's image is being destroyed by its own citizens. Democracy has given the citizens a lot of freedom which we as citizens don't deserve (not all). Breaking of laws is common nowadays in India just because of so much freedom. I read the newspaper every day and the news comes like- police got beaten up by villagers when they went to arrest the accused ATM thief. This has no sense people just come on to beat one another in small things, why would police take a person without any reason. I also fear about that day when people would start beating up the PM if he/she doesn't follow the people's orders. It's like we don't even have a government and we're just ruling ourselves. We were divided that's why the British was able to rule upon us for 200 years and after 70 years of independence, we still have that casual attitude, the quality of disobedience. We just try to take shortcuts. That's why so much of Black money has gone out of India. We all don't act as responsible citizens Ex- not paying taxes, spreading corruption, etc. I'm not saying we need a leader like Hitler, I'm saying that we need a strict government which can put the country on the right path. Britain also has Monarchy, but their citizens never complain about it because it runs the country so well. It's not all our fault. It's the fault of leaders as well who drove the country downwards rather than developing it. If the leaders were strict enough in the starting itself we wouldn't have to face such a situation now. There are crimes happening always illiteracy, discrimination, caste system and many more which some of us don't even know. The point of a reservation was meaningless. I know it was very important to implement such a thing at that time but it was also government's duty to remove it after 10 years as well which they did not do. This has resulted in BONUS for failures they just make a fake card from anywhere, get a reservation and get the degree easily and the general category people don't get their degree just because of 1%.


I won't say that Democracy is hampering India's progress as it is the fastest growing economy but it is slowing it down a lot. We must need to make strict laws otherwise the attitude of the citizens will never change and it may never be a DEVELOPED country but if cooperate with the government and try our best to remove most of the bad qualities of the country, we may succeed as nothing is impossible. In my opinion, democracy is not hampering the progress of India but it is we, the people of India, who are responsible for degrading the value of democracy in India. Democracy has enabled us to choose what is right & root out what is wrong but only when we use this supreme power in a right & honest manner.

But in actual, we, the people of India are indulged in overlooking the long term or broad viewed benefits by favouring the political person/party in elections, who serves our own purpose either directly or indirectly. Thus we misuse our right.

Secondly, there are so many people in India, who really don't know & understand the meaning of democracy, they play a wide role in the electing a wrong politician. So, our educational system needs to be strengthened so that at least everyone in our society is aware about right & wrong.

Apart from that, even after each & everyone being aware of it, what is needed most is OUR HONEST ATTITUDE towards our country & it's people. Then only we can imagine a developed India in future.

We cannot say that democracy is hampering India's progress. Because the democratic government has given people lot of freedom to express their views and even to question the government. In that view, through democracy each and every citizen is involved in the administration either directly or indirectly. So people get more concerned about the governmental happenings and development of the country. This is possible only through the democratic form of government.

But at the same time, democracy hesitates imposing serious laws and rules on people which have given them much more freedom. The people use the freedom in wrong way and they even cheat the government. So as the famous saying goes by, "Too much of anything is good for nothing", the democratic form of government should not give more freedom to people which in turn will ruin both the people and country. Hence democracy should be maintained with some strict laws and rules.

Yes, democracy is hampering India's progress. In India, you can not get a job if you are talented and belongs to general category. But it provides jobs for less educated people if they belong to sc and st. The government sector is filling with corrupt people. And talented people are leaving the country to get a good job. And the cream mind of India is used by other countries and becoming more developed than India, so in my opinion, democracy is hampering India's progress.

No. Democracy is theoretically best political system.

It is Illiteracy, poor quality of education system, psychological negativity, lack of patriotic culture, poor leadership which is hampering India's progress.

A great leader can only change the future of India. Ancient India had one of the world richest and cultured dynasties on earth. Those were ruled and guided by great emperors or leaders.

So India waits for that leader again. It will come. Time cycle will repeat and we will prosper.

Democracy is a system of government in which we can choose our government A/c to our choice that didn't occur in monarchy system. Democratic got selected by the people for the people and always remain with the people.

We have the example of South Africa where democracy help in the abolition of discrimination between black and white by Nelson Mandela.

How can we say that the democracy is hampering the INDIA's progress?

Actually, the main reason behind the hampering of progress is illiteracy, poverty, gender inequalities, lack of patriotic culture etc. Here we choose our govt on the basis of caste, religion and party system. Most of the seats here are reserved for the quotas like SC, ST.

So, I think we should change our mentality and perception towards our country, our govt then only our country can progress.
