Yes, I agree with this statement cricket dominates over other sports. India is obsessed with cricket and we can see the public giving more attention and interest to it than compared to any other sports.

It is indeed an overstatement that, cricket as a national obsession is a detriment to other sports. Indian Sportsman playing other Sports are also doing well and they are getting accolades from our country men. I really feel my self proud when our tri colours flutters and National Anthem sung, be it be any Sports event or occassion. Sports binds people with each other it never can be a detriment.

Well, I personally feel that obsession with cricket is a detriment to other sports. It is all because of the way it is promoted. It is just like in the case of a movie,if a movie is hyped about all of us go to watch it but some epic movie just gets neglected because of poor advertisement and there is less talent in other sports because of improper training because of lack of finances.

So, in my opinion, cricket is so popular in India because Indians can relate to this sport so much and cricket has its own large fanbase.
Our media also promote cricket and have a very strong foundation and huge financial support as compared to other sports but in my point of view every sport has its own pros and cons we should appreciate other sports also.

In India Indian Cricket Team is recognised as a no.1 Test team in all over the world. In 1983 India got World Cup.In other games India could not have gain this kind of fame.So many corporate company like to invest too much money to organised this game.So in India Cricket become very popular.
But ofcourse for this the players from other game become less interest on their game, which become a a reason that they are defeating in their games.

WEll its a fact that cricket has been overshadowing all other sports exercised in our country. The performance of the Indian cricket team has won many accolades all over the world, so its bound to happen that Indians are prejudiced about this game. But that definitely does not imply that one should go bonkers and disrespect other nationally and internationally celebrated games. Another reason to this is the over stimulated publicity and investments by all the biggies of the country in this sport. Thus, it overshadows the successes in various other fields of sports which has left many a sportsmen disheartened.

The popularity of this particular game can be attributed to the abundant opportunities it offers, while other sports receive comparatively less attention and funding, making them less prominent.
Additionally, cricket has been a sport that our nation has received various accolades and awards in for a considerable period, and this has undeniably played a significant role in contributing to its widespread popularity, in conjunction with the reasons mentioned earlier.

You can not think two different thing at a same time. People in India loves cricket. So they will watch cricket. Thus cricket will be commercialised and leave other sports behind. But if Someone is passionate to other sports there are huge scope for them like olympics and commonwealth games, etc. That's all.

In my view, cricket has the most popular fanbase worldwide. Some of you said that other sports also have the same popularity but it wasn't. By the way, most popular sports will quickly reach the people.
Moreover, India has the most talented players and huge fan-following cricketers even like Small Child to Old Man.
Everyone loves that sport with passion. I love cricket because there's an emotion expressed in the field that will appear on the field and off the field also.

Cricket and football both have their own separate fanbase and favoritism, but I believe that giving too much priority to cricket is somehow causing people to ignore other important issues of our country like politics, economy, culture, education, and national development.
IPL and T20 are good for entertainment and relaxation, but at the same time they can divert people’s attention, thinking, and motivation from the real goal of building a “Viksit Bharat”. Sports definitely help the country, but mostly the people who are playing, investing, betting, or making business through them get the benefit. If we look at other sports, many talented athletes who represent India at national and international levels, win Olympic medals, and make the country proud still do not receive the same recognition, support, or respect as famous cricketers like Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni. Not only ordinary citizens but even the government and media sometimes fail to reward them the way they truly deserve. Many people do not even know the names of athletes from sports like wrestling, hockey, athletics, boxing, or archery despite their achievements for the nation.
However, after 2024, women’s cricket started receiving more fame and appreciation, which is a positive change for Indian sports.
But a developed or developing country should not focus only on one sport but should support every athlete equally and encourage awareness, talent, discipline, and national growth together.
