Are beauty contests degrading womanhood?

Like anything and everything in this universe, this also has its pros and cons. Beauty contests are a very good opportunity for women to mark their entrance in modeling career. It provides a sense of confidence and achievement to women.

But it also affects us even without us knowing. Right from childhood when we watch all these beauty pageant contests, it is being imprinted in our mind that a perfect woman is one who is tall, thin, beautiful and all. As we grow up this image of a perfect woman grows within us and we tend to be disappointed with ourselves.

That is the standards for a perfect woman have already been etched in our mind, which controls us to a great extent. We tend to forget that it is our imperfections that make us perfect. We all strive hard to become one of those standard beauties and are never satisfied with ourselves, leading to depression and other consequences.

This has actually been proved and there are countries that have taken action saying that any picture of a model that is edited has to come out with the label that it is edited. In this long strive to become standardized we forget to embrace ourselves and love ourselves.

First of all I would like to say that it is not what you do that degrades a woman, but how you do it. If the pageant is strictly about looks and beauty than it is what it is. To see who has the better look or the look that is more honorable. This is not degrading but can cause self esteem issues for women that enter these pageants just to feel pretty or just to prove a point to the world. Pageants are not for every woman but unfortunately a lot of the wrong women enter these pageants and wind up getting their feelings hurt. I think when women have to wear little or nothing with all types of strange men looking at them, than that can be degrading to a woman if she doesn't know how to handle this mentally. Personally I think it is a beautiful thing to show your body especially when it is nice. If certain women think pageants are degrading then don't bother with them. Believe me there are other things excluding pageants that degrade women. But it is a matter of opinion and it strictly depends on the woman. So I say no, pageants are not degrading. It's the woman herself that determines what makes her feel less than who and what she is.

I would like to express my views on a beauty contest.

According to me, beauty contest means competition in which winner candidate is beautiful from mind, body, talent, skill and how to express ownself.

Everything has +ve and -ve aspect. Like as everything beauty contest has positive and negative aspects.

First of all, I want to express my views on positive expectations. Beauty contest encourages women and gives confidence to women. From beauty contest, they think they can do something in her life like as beauty contest winner.

And it is a way to make her career in modelling, TV serial, film also.

Now I want to express my views on the negative aspect. The beauty contest is only for those people who have leisure time.

It's not for a busy and career-making person.

For this contest, Indian girls accept western culture and leave Indian culture and perform in short dresses.

Beauty is naturally processing it's not for publically shown and forget her own culture.

Don't Degrade Beauty.

Coming to the topic, beauty contest's not lead to make degrade of women character & behaviour. Its the things will improve our responsibilities, actually to say. Let us to discuss regarding to Indian culture, most of them put their attention to follow the western culture, means wearing foreign brand clothes instead of our Indian tradition dresses, this is why because means they are interested to attract everyone's contact with their culture. I possible to them only by conducting number of beauty contests.

Same type of contests if we conduct their is chance to grab the neighborhood countries. Up to 18th century India more wealthy than the other countries, when we started to follow the foreigners culture instead of our Indian traditional culture its lead to us to fall in backward & also our dependence on other countries increased. The only remedy is to, we also have impose our culture throughout the world by conducting different beauty contest's & also government & media also have encourage by their support.

As the name suggests "Beauty contests". Beauty contests are not just a platform to showcase the beauty of the body. Indeed, it's a platform to display the beauty of one's soul and heart. A heart of selfless mind, a heart for the religion of humanity. If it is the real definition of beauty in my eyes. How can it degrade womanhood? where we see the beauty of a woman in every aspect: as a mother, as a daughter, as a wife, as a sister or as a friend. In the definition of god, women are the one of the most beautiful creation. It's the viewpoints and thoughts of the society which needs to change with respect to the beauty contests. Society should encourage women to be a part of it as its made with a whole and sole ideology to build confidence and to make them bold and beautiful. As we know that "with great powers come great responsibility ". So, it's a responsibility of the people working under the beauty contests not to misuse powers in their hands and not to ruin its integrity.

We can stand as a unique person in this world by helping the needy, serving our society, raising our voice over social evils such as discrimination of caste, religion, region. So I think exposing our beauty over outside world is unnecessary.

But if we are talking about womanhood, nothing in these contests define womanhood. Womanhood doesn't mean looking beautiful or petite, doing a catwalk or talking on terrorism or world peace. These contests are merely a pass to enter the world of fashion and movies. None of the promises made in the contests are addressed after winning the competition let go of completing them.

I think always Women's are equivalent to Men. Beauty contest are held only for women and not for men mostly. So, women's should take it in a right way and they can use their own traditional dresses like chude, saree, etc, . Being a girl, each should come forward for all and also express their own talents possibly in a good way.

I don't think that beauty contest is degrading womanhood. Fist of all what actually a womanhood mean? Womanhood is the quality traditionally possessed by women.

Before going to the traditional qualities of women I would like to say about a beauty contest. So beauty contest is a place or platform for young ladies to show their beauty and talent. And the one who is more beautiful and more intelligent is the winner or we can say beauty with brain wins. This contest consist of various round including swimming suit round, which is the most in question round and some says the most vulgar round. And in some contest is not even included but at the national level, it is there. Just think, the women who are participating in swimming suit round they are well acquainted with swimming or swimming suit and they are not swimming in private. So how girl wearing a swimming suit in a contest will degrade womanhood but not swimming in public.

I would like to discuss about the topic beauty pageant.

Beauty pageant is a beauty contest where women show their talent all over the world.

But is has an advantage as well as some disadvantage like;

Advantages:

With beauty pageant women take the part in miss world and miss universe competition and women take care of her fitness and women will be self-dependent and they have a lot of experience in social work.

Disadvantages:

Many women spend lots of money in hairstyle and take medicine for their physical beauty and promote cosmetic surgery and with the influence of beauty pageants many young girl focus more on physical beauty instead of building life skill and career.

So, lastly, we can say that we cannot say beauty pageant is gold or bad it depends how we see the whole thing and we can also see that many people boycott the beauty pageant add some are big fans of Beauty pageant.

In my opinion beauty contest is sort of like a game you can say in which from different nations or states girls are participating. Actually a girl gets a exposure from this very events vize in movies and acting fields and in fact they earn fame in modeling itself through this. If a normal life living girl gets a job or you can say earn a fame (talking in basic language). Its not a bad thing.

In fact they learn how to speak how to react and there mentality and way of living goes up on to next level. I know after being getting famous they get into various controversies. But that's a fault of media not there's.

But one of the common and very minute disadvantage that they start consuming beauty drugs which is harmful for them in future. But only in some cases I am talking about. So its not that beauty contest are degrading woman's hood rather it is giving chance to women to come up and show there talents.

Hmm. I'm a Nigerian the different ways you viewed these are the ways two close tribes in Nigeria viewed it. I'm a Yoruba, I hardly see a girl from my side doing this they consider it irrelevant even the extraordinarily beauties among them always seems not to be aware of it existence, they always live this contest to their younger juniors in high school. Ibos they are the closest to us and they live all across the crone and cranny of location but they believed seriously in beauty contest, even among the Yorubas this have now made them believe that they are the most attractive in the country. NO2 the ibos due to their high rate of pageant have made them the most rash in term of ladies esteem why they are the highest in terms of prostitution, husband & wife quarrel, the highest rate on girls displaying their body on the TV and so on I'm not backlashing tribe but I'm just relating it to my environment.
