The meaning of AD is Anno Domini or Year of our Lord referring to the year of Christ's birth. The meaning of BC is Before Christ. CE is a recent term.

It refers to Common Era and is used in place of AD. The dates are the same i.e., 2009 AD is 2009 CE. BCE means Before Common Era. For example 400 BC is 400 BCE.

After the revolt of 1857, the control over India transferred from East India Company to the British crown.

Viceroy was the title of a representative who was sent by the British queen to India. Lord caning who had been assuming governer general got the title "viceroy".

After the revolt of 1857 or the 'Sepoy mutiny' or 'The battle of independence', India was directly bought under the control British Empire having Victoria as the queen. The east India company was thrown out and the post of governor-general was reconstructed as viceroy.
