In terms of the area, Madhya Pradesh has the largest forest cover of around 77,414 square km in the country, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with 66,964 square km and Chhattisgarh with 55,547 square km. However, these states have reported a decline in forest cover.
On the basis of the percentage of forest cover with respect to the total geographical area, Lakshadweep (with 90.33 percent) has the highest forest cover, followed by Mizoram (86.27 percent) and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Percentage based first Arunachal Pradesh.

According to Indian states the largest forest covers across the country is Arunachal Pradesh i.e. 63%.

- Arunachal Pradesh - with forest cover of 67321 square kilometer.
According to forest survey report 2013,
Mizoram in terms of percentage of forest to Geographical area with respect to total geographical area 90.38 percent had highest forest cover. i.e. above 33%.
