The First Bank was "Bank of Hindustan" established in 1770 at Kolkata under European Management. Other Bank set up were "Bank of Bengal" (1806) , "Bank of Bombay" (1840), and "Bank of Madras" (1843), These were called Presidency Banks. First bank with limited liability managed by an Indian board was Qudh Commercial Bank founded in 1881.

The first bank purely managed by Indian was Punjab National Bank, established in Lahore in 1895.

First purely Indian bank was Punjab National bank Later Imperial bank (1921) by amalgamating the Presidency banks named as Bank of Calcutta (1806) , Bank of Bombay (1840) , Bank of Madras (1843).

SBI was started in the year 1806 with the name bank of calcutta so here the confusion arises but sbi was mainy formed to take care of the money flow of east India company.

Obviously, Allahabad bank is the oldest one but it was a joint-stock. First wholly Indian bank where all employee were Indians was PNB.

Presidency bank is the first bank to be set up in India but maybe it was not the fully Indian bank and hence PNB is more probable.

The first Indian Wholly bank is Oudh Bank (1881) but the present working wholly Indian bank is Punjab National Bank (1894).

The first bank in India is Hindustan bank of India in 1894, Calcutta which earlier name of state bank of India.

Name of SBI was earlier Imperial bank which was later on converted into State Bank of India.
