Petrolium products are oil & lubricants, we will use foam extiguiser, as it will make a foam cover over the oil and hence cut off the oxygen supply. Please correct the answer.

Powder type is correct answer because this type of extinguisher is use high specific value of fuel i.e. petroleum , coal etc.

We know that petrol fire is not extinguish by the water and electric fire is not by water and foam it is extinguish by powder type, to extinguish the patrol fire we use foam type it cuts the link between the fire (patrol) from air.

Even after receiving so many corrections why these people are not correcting the answer. It has to be FOAM, the powder is used in electric fire.

The reason is DENSITY of foam is lighter then petroleum element. So it forms a layer over the surface of the burning substance (petroleum) and cut offs the fire.

It is only foam type extinguser for POL fire.

Foam type extinguisher is used for oil type fire because it forms a layer on oil surface which prevents the oxygen to come in contact directly with oil called as smothering where as powder is used for metallic fire and the process is called free radical quenching. Here it is to be noticed that for preventing the fire the powder which is used is only for temporary purpose.

If answer is powder than give some example.

NaHCO3 and sodium Carbonate powder can be used as they readily converted into CO2 which acts as fire extinguisher.

ALL fire extinguishers are designed to put out fires. A Dry extinguisher uses a powder or gas rather than a liquid, and cuts off the oxygen to the fire. They can be used in freezing conditions where a water type extinguisher would be useless.

Powder is the correct answer because it has more absorbing power.

Ayush said: (Jul 25, 2014)
Powder as well as foam both cam be the answer because as a powder form it is used as chemical powder which has specific properties. And as foam it is also used as it decreases oxygen supply to great extent.

Prakash said: (Aug 13, 2014)
Foam and powder both because powder cut the chain reaction of fire and foam form a layer on oil surface.

Sunil Gohil said: (Nov 20, 2014)
Foam type fire extinguisher is best suited for petroleum fire.

Abhijit said: (Jul 27, 2015)
For large petroleum fire foam is used.

S Rajak said: (Aug 3, 2015)
I think that foam would be using for extinguish the fire catches by petrol.

Basant said: (Aug 18, 2015)
Its always foam type because the oxygen supply close in foam type so the petroleum easily extinguish.

Anand said: (Aug 28, 2015)
Powder and foam both answers are correct, ABC type powder fire extinguisher contains mono amonium phosphate which is also used for extinguishing liquid fires.

Gaurav said: (Apr 14, 2016)
Foam type is best for petroleum fire because it block the entry of oxygen and extinguishes fire.

Ajaya said: (May 12, 2016)
Foam is the correct answer.

It creates a cooling blanket effect, smothering burning materials and preventing reignition.

Please give some correct example so that it is easy to understand.

Bharat said: (Jun 28, 2016)
According to me, Foam is the right one.

Abhi said: (Aug 8, 2016)
I think the Foam is the correct answer.

Prabhat said: (Oct 28, 2016)
Actually, the question is incomplete, there are two types of petroleum fire, jet fire and pool fire.

On jet fire, it is recommended to use dcp, powder type as it do smothering effect.

In pool, fire foam is used as it cools, smothers the fire.

The right answer Foam type.

Santhosh said: (Nov 13, 2016)
As per my thought, it's Foam type.

Saniya said: (Jan 20, 2017)
In the fire extinguisher, there is the powder of carbon dioxide.

Raj said: (May 21, 2017)
Foam is the correct answer.

Arun said: (May 31, 2017)
Foam is the correct answer.

Ruda said: (Jun 30, 2017)
For foam extinguisher to petroleum fire the may intermix to form a heterogeneous equilibrium.

However, powder type extinguisher is used for petrol fire.

Nitin said: (Sep 15, 2017)
Foam is the correct answer.

Minender said: (Sep 25, 2017)
I think foam is a good answer here as compared to foam because suppose fire is not on a horizontal surface then how foam could work upon petroleum fire.

Vinoth.M said: (Nov 20, 2017)
Foam is the right answer because if we use powder oil will flash.

Shailesh said: (Sep 19, 2018)
Powered type is used for metallic fire.

Rehan Khan said: (Mar 31, 2019)
For petrol, the foam is used.

For other petroleum, the powder is used.

Narendra Maurya said: (Jul 21, 2019)
Correct andswer is foam.

Hemant said: (Apr 29, 2020)
According to me, Foam is correct.
