As peat is the first level of formation of vegetable matter or remains of plants which is found in the underlying layers of earth. Because of underlying substances it creates pressure and heat result in the formation of coal after many years.

The peat is the uppermost layer of coal, it is a soft layer consisting of dead plants and animals. The second layer of coal is lignite it has a high moisture content and carbon content of 25%-35%.The next layer is the bitumen, which is black in colour. The best quality coal is the anthracite it has got about 85%-95% of carbon content.
