Diamond is made of pure carbon, with carbon atoms arranged in a cubic structure and bonded to their neighbors in a very compact way.

So, diamond is made of an element but it is not an element. It is not a compound either, because, by definition, a compound is made up of two or more elements.

I would say diamond is crystalline form of carbon, that is, it is composed merely of carbon atoms in a highly structured arrangement.
It is carbon, like charcoal, but its more expensive due to its good properties and the fantastic marketing to the gullible public.

Actually a diamond is an object not an element. The element is carbon and the carbon molecules combine under extreme conditions to form a diamond. This example is no different than an iceberg.

An iceberg is comprised of water molecules that combine under extreme conditions to form an ice pack which can then break into icebergs. But an iceberg is not water, an iceberg is comprised of water molecules. In this way a diamond is comprised of carbon. The element is carbon and the diamond is an object formed of that element.

Carbon = Atom = Element.
Diamond = 100% carbon.
Diamond = Carbon.

Diamond is Technically an Element because it IS 100% of a single element. Saying Diamond is an element is like saying.

"A house is made of wood, wood is used for building. So that must mean houses are USED for building also".

No, houses (Diamond) are made from building materials (Carbon) Houses are just the accumulation and joining of building materials to form a structure.

It is an element . Because the definition of an element is a substance consisting of only one type of pure matter, which in the case of diamond is carbon. The definition of a compound is a substance which consists of more than one "type" of the element, or two different elements. Even though it has carbon bonds, it consists of only one element (carbon), again it's is an element!

Diamond is an allotrope of carbon(C), right!

But if you think logically, then Diamond is also a carbon(C).

Now when carbon(C) is an Element, why not the diamond(C) be an element?

Both carbon and diamond are exclusively made up of carbon atoms and no other.
Hence, carbon is an element because it only contains carbon atom, so diamond is correct.

Diamond is an allotrope of carbon but carbon is itself an element hence diamond must be an element.

Ruby, sapphire and emerald are gemstones or minerals but diamond is not a mineral.

Diamond is formed by cutting carbon at very very small angles to make it shine.

That's why its expensive.

Confirm D because in this question no compound present that made only one element but ruby, Sapphire, emerald consist of different element. Only diamond made by one element, carbon, but out of this question diamond is not correct answer for element, its nearly answer in this question.

Ruby, topaz, emerald and sapphire are the name of corals and pearls where as diamond is the allotropic form of carbon which is obviously a metal. Diamond is a example of covalent crystal. Covalent crystals are present only in metals. Hence diamond is also a metal.

Diamond is an allotrope of carbon.

Here all others are minerals.

And diamond is made up of carbon only.

Meanwhile, it is not an element but it's a homogeneous compound of carbon which is closest to the element. Hence, it is referred here as an element.

Diamond is made up of elements, but it is neither an element nor metals. From the question, the other substances are forms of gemstone, so diamond will be the answer. But there must be a reasonable prove to the fact that diamond is an element.
