Yes, but why should we eat NaCl? We get chloride ions from other sources as well for preparation of HCl by the stomach.

It is because during digestion, the stomach produces a chemical substance called Hydrochloric acid which helps to disinfect micro-organism in the food eaten and the substance called salt helps to play a vital role in this process of digestion.
