Ethylene is used for ripening of fruits, it's a correct way of ripening.

Fruit sellers often use calcium carbide in order to increase the rate of ripening. Then wrap a chunk oh CaC2 inside a moist cloth. The reaction between CaC2 and water yields C2H2. So, I thik acetylene is the correct option.

Ethylene is plant harmone so this is natural.
Acetlene is artificial.
Acetlene is artificial.

Hi,
Can anyone give me an explanation on what is the biochemical process of artificial fruits ripening?

Actually calcium carbide is used as fruit ripening agent which produces acetylene gas (C2H2) This gas behaves same as natural ethelene (C2H4).

Calcium carbide is also used in some countries for artificially ripening fruit. When calcium carbide comes in contact with moisture, it produces acetylene gas, which is quite similar in its effects to the natural ripening agent, ethylene. Acetylene acts like ethylene and accelerates the ripening process. Industrial-grade calcium carbide may also contain traces of arsenic and.

Acetylene is artificial ripner. Ethylene is natural ripner.

Ethylene is a natural ripener, but it is also used as an artificial fruit ripener.
Acetylene is produced when artificial ripening agent calcium carbide comes in contact with moisture.
Acetylene is itself is not used.
Hence answer is ethylene.
