Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) was the fourth son of Immanuel Nobel (1801-1872) an inventor and engineer, and Karolina Andriette (Ahlsell) Nobel (1805-1889).

Nobel was interested in engineering, particularly explosives, learning the basic principles from his father at a young age. His interest in technology was inherited from his father.

On 3 September 1864, a shed, used for the preparation of "nitroglycerin", exploded at the factory in Heleneborg Stockholm, killing five people, including Nobel's younger brother Emil.

Nobel invented "dynamite" in 1867, a substance easier and safer to handle than the more unstable nitroglycerin. Dynamite was patented in the US and the UK and was used extensively in mining and the building of transport networks internationally.

In 1888, Alfred Nobel's brother "Ludvig" died while visiting Cannes (=a port and resort city on the French Riviera) but a French newspaper erroneously published that Alfred Nobel was dead.

The French News Paper stated that, Le marchand de la mort est mort ("The merchant of death is dead") and went on to say, "Dr. Alfred Nobel, who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before by inventing dynamite and all, had died yesterday.

Alfred was disappointed with those news what he read and concerned with. So all his property is given to charity and on his memory the Nobel prize was given.

The Nobel Committee then prepares a report reflecting the advice of experts in the relevant fields. This, along with the list of preliminary candidates, is submitted to the prize-awarding institutions. The institutions meet to choose the laureate or laureates in each field by a majority vote. Their decision, which cannot be appealed, is announced immediately after the vote. A maximum of three laureates and two different works may be selected per award. Except for the Peace Prize, which can be awarded to institutions, the awards can only be given to individuals. If the Peace Prize is not awarded, the money is split among the scientific prizes. This has happened 19 times so far.

The Correct answer is not D.

Technically Prize in Economic Sciences is not a Nobel Prize. It was established and endowed by Sweden's central bank Sveriges Riksbank, and not by Alfred Nobel in his will. It is awarded in the same function, that is why it is generally refereed as Nobel in Economics. Also in the past it has been awarded to non economists as well.

It's official name is he "Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel".
