At very high temperatures the extrinsic semi conductors become intrinsic because
drive in diffusion of dopants and carriers
band to band transition dominants over impurity ionization
impurity ionization dominants over band to band transition
band to band transition is balanced by impurity ionization
Answer: Option

Because the increased thermal energy leads to a dominant number of thermally generated charge carriers that overshadow the carriers introduced by doping.

As temperature increases breaking of covalent bonds increases due to this both the majority and minority carriers of extrinsic semiconductor increases. At some temp minority carries will be equal to majority carries. It means majority carriers due to doping is neglected so extrinsic semiconductor acts as an intrinsic semiconductor.

As the temperature increase beyond 300K then the conductivity of extrinsic semiconductor decrease because fermi level moving towards the energy gap (depend upon n/ p) no free electron is available. After curie temp, Conductivity further increases because fermi level move to the either CB or VB.

Fermi an energy level, which is used to describe the top of the collection of electron energy levels at absolute zero temperature.

What is fermi level?

200*c for silicon & 85*c for germanium.

What is the maximum temp?

Swatantra said:   1 decade ago
As temp. Increases in the extrinsic semiconductor fermi level moves toward the intrinsic level this is known as the band to band transition.

Can someone elaborate the answer as I m not getting the exact meaning of band to band transition over impurity ionization?
