Semiconductors also includes elements like phosphorus (penta valent) , boron (tri valent) , but here why we are considering only Si and Ge.

In EDC, when we discuss about semiconduchetors, we consider Si, Ge only and both are elements of IVth group of periodic table i.e., having 4 valency electrons that is okey but still I am confuse about the amswer becouse here its given "Single-element semiconductors".

If suppose we taken the intrinsic semiconductor.

Number of holes==number of electrons.

In p-type semiconductor holes are majority charge carriers, it lies nearer to the valency band, so carriers present in the valency band are called valency electrons. In p-type the hybridization is sp3, so number of atoms are 4.

What are single element semiconductors?

This is not a single. It is silicon element semiconductor.

Correct answer

Kanika there is no solution for this.

Its simply architecture theory like earth revolves around the sun.

Its universal truth.

Valance electrons means electrons in outer shell --- for a single element semi conductance there will 4 valence electrons as they are 4 group elements.

I didn't get you it would be helpful if you could explain it.
