1). Load current is simply found by 10v/5k = 2mA.

2). The output is regulated by zener @10v hence 6v is dropped by dropper resistor are which is 1K.

3). Total current is found by 6v/1k = 6mA.

4). Finally, Iz is 6mA-2mA = 4mA.

So the answer is option D.

But the maximum rating for zener given is 30mW. Thus the max zener current it can handle is 3mA, the current of 4mA is greater than this. How can be the given ans correct?

Wastage rating of zener is 30mw so its in circuit to take Iz 4mA.

Its a case of 'voltage regulator through zener diode'
VL will be the zener voltage i.e. 10v

Hence current through RL is V/R i.e. 10/5k =2mA

Current through R is (voltage difference across R)/resistance
i.e. (16-10)/1k =6mA

Hence current through zener diode= total current-Load current
i.e.6mA-2mA =4mA

@Harshada I'm with you in that, how is it possible?

Max current zener can with stand is only 3ma.
