Assume that the given is a silicon diode.

Since it is the preferred type of diode over germanium most of the time. Unless stated that it is an ideal diode. Most of the time the problems are practical questions, that is why you need to consider the practical values, not ideal values.

Here they are not mentioned the type of diode so we have to consider the Ideal case
So According to Ohms Law the Answer is C i.e. 5ma

@Niyas.

If it is not mentioned then we prefer silicon b/c it has low leakage current, more energy gap, and high resistivity.

As voltage is in series with diode, there is some voltage drop at diode. So 'v' at 'D'is 14.3, current in circuit is 4.8mA.

They have not specified here which diode is that. There for considering ideal diode the answer is 5ma only.

MY OPTION IS C.5mA BECAUSE E=IR(OHMS LAW)
THEREFORE I=E/R
=15V/3KOHM
=5mA

Hello, what will happen when the voltage supply is less than the diode?

Please explain me.

5 mA right answer because they are not specified that the diode is Ge or Si.

Venkateswarlu said:   1 decade ago
@Yasmin.

Voltage drop of Si is 0.7, Ge is 0.3 and Ideal diode is 0.

5mA is right answer because diode is consider ideal...
