Rheostat is not energy source it will be used only increase are decrease the given voltage value in lab experiments.

Rheostat is the variable resistance i.e. we can vary the value of resistor using rheostat. Whereas all the other things are energy sources i.e. they generate power through many sources.

Three other options which are generator, solar cell, battery generate electricity but rheostat not giving any electricity. Rheostat is a variable resistance.

Rheostat is a variable resistor. It has three terminals. 2 fixed terminals and one variable terminal to vary the resistance. It can be kept in either cut in or cut out position. If kept in cut out position it offers zero resistance. When kept in cut in position it provides the full resistance. The cut in nd cut out position is kept using the third terminal. Kindly see the pic of a rheostant you ll understand better.

How the rheostat is variable resistance?

Generator = Mechanical Energy to Electrical Energy,
Solar cell = Light energy to Electrical Energy,
battey = Chemical enrgy to Electrical Energy.
Rheostat = Variable resistance

Here, generator, solorcell&battery are energy source but rheostat is not a energy source.
