Potentiometer (IEEE): Adjustable resistor has 3 terminals.
Variable Resistor/Rheostat (IEEE): Adjustable resistor has 2 terminals.
Thermistor - Thermal resistor: Change resistance when temperature changes.
Photoresistor/Light dependent resistor (LDR): Changes resistance according to light.

Potentiometer is a three-terminal resistor with a sliding contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider, current divider or other devices. Thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance varies significantly with temperature.
Can any one explain about the wiper?

A potentio meter has 3 pins. Two terminals (the blue and green) are connected to a resistive element and the 3rd terminal (black one) is connected to an adjustable wiper. The potentio meter can work as a rheostat (variable resistor) or a voltage divider.

Rheostat have two fixed terminal and one movable terminal all together three terminal but only two terminals are used. Only one of those two fixed terminals and another movable terminal are used.

Example for wiper, a bus or a 4 wheeled vehicle has a wiper used to remove the rain droplets on the screen, wiper is attached to potentiometer.

When used as a variable resistor, all pots -whether electromechanical or electronic - suffer from the parasitic error of "wiper resistance. ".

A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance varies significantly with temperature, more so than in standard resistors.

Wiper is nothing but potentiometer which we can adjustable the resistance value. Where as rheostat is a variable resistance.

Wiper is one type of variable resistance, which have three terminal and one nobe to varies the resistance.

Wiper is a sliding contact. Think of the meter bridge experiment where we use jockey, similarly wiper.
