Since the given current values are in RMS and the total current to be found in RMS then the total current will be 6 A.

Irms = √(√(i1rms)+ √(i2rms)) Because i1rms=i2rms=3amps.
Irms = √(2√(irms)),
Irms = √(2)*irms,
Irms = 1.414*3 = 4.2a.
Irms = √(2√(irms)),
Irms = √(2)*irms,
Irms = 1.414*3 = 4.2a.
