If it is known that at least 23 students were eligible for a Symposium on Chemistry, then the minimum qualifying marks in Chemistry for eligibility to Symposium would lie in the range?
Answer: Option

Option c is correct because the 21 students above 30 also includes 4 students who are above 40. So the total is 21 how can we get 23 so we have to go for above 20 marks where 66 includes this 21 and 4 students in the upper range.

Between 0-10 there are 100-81 = 19 students.
Between 10-20 there are 81-66 = 15 students.
Between 20-30 there are 66-21 = 45 students.
Between 30-40 there are 21-4 = 17 students.
So the 23 students lies in between 20-30.
Between 10-20 there are 81-66 = 15 students.
Between 20-30 there are 66-21 = 45 students.
Between 30-40 there are 21-4 = 17 students.
So the 23 students lies in between 20-30.

Below 20, there are 100-66 = 34.
Why the answer is C, why can't it be D.
Even 23 can also be fitted in below 20.
Since they have not given any passing criteria as a condition.
Please rectify me if I am wrong.

Answer should be (D) as they have asked for minimum eligibility range, and question doesn't mention anything about explicitly about passing criteria so we should not assume any extra information.

0-10 19.
10-20 15.
20-30 45.
30-40 17.
40-50 4.
So if we take 30-40 as range there will be 21 students, but the required is 23 or more.
So we need to include 20-30 as cut off.

@Alok is correct.
Please read the question "at least 23 students were eligible".
And in calculation of Alok, 23 can only be fit in 20-30 band.
So answer is C which is 20-30.

@all
Above 20 there are 66 people
Above 30 there are 21 people
So people between 20-30 would be 66-21 = 45 people
Option C is correct , no doubt in that.

As minimum 23 is required but in case of 30 and above its just 21 but we need minimum value to be 23. So we go 20 to 30 range, as per my understanding.
