Subject | Marks out of 50 | ||||
40 and above | 30 and above | 20 and above | 10 and above | 0 and above | |
Physics | 9 | 32 | 80 | 92 | 100 |
Chemistry | 4 | 21 | 66 | 81 | 100 |
Average (Aggregate) | 7 | 27 | 73 | 87 | 100 |
4.
The number of students scoring less than 40% marks in aggregate is?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
We have 40% of 50 = | ![]() |
40 | x 50 | ![]() |
= 20. |
100 |
Required number
= Number of students scoring less than 20 marks in aggreagate
= 100 - Number of students scoring 20 and above marks in aggregate
= 100 - 73
= 27.

A number of student scoring less than 40% in aggregate is 50 * 40/100 = 20 marks.
A number of students who got less than 20 marks in aggregate are less than 20 means all the student who got 0 to 19 zero and above are 100 and 10 to above are 87.
All the student who got less than 20 comes under the counting of 100 hence we have to find the number of the student from 0 to 19 marks which are 100 - 73 = 27.

It's simple.
Out of 100 students, 73 students have scored 20/50 and to find students scored less than 20, simply subtract total students (100) - students scored above 20 (73) = 27.
We can't simply subtract 73 from 87 because there are students scored less than 10 also so, it 73 should subtract from 100.

Aggregate: 7 27 73 87 100.
Why we are not directly take 87 and 100 value?
Because in table is already mansion "10 and above & 0 and above".
So according to them we should add these two values (100+87).
But they take 27 "Who is 30 and above"?
Can any one explain this question?

According to me, the correct ans is 13.
Because question says less than 20.
So we will take a number of student scoring 10 and above.
i.e 100 -87=13.
But if we remove the word "less than" in the question the provided answer is correct.
If it is wrong please correct me

The que says that the given chart shows the classification of 100 students. That means in total 100 students are there;
100-73=27.
Total-students having above 20=students having below 20 marks.
100-73=27.
Total-students having above 20=students having below 20 marks.

Actually my doubt is:
To get number of students with marks less than 20 we can subtract students with 20 to 50 marks from 10 to 50 i.e, 87 - 73 = 14.
Why should we consider 100 - 73?

10 and above should be included but 20 30 40 above are not included since it is higher than 40% and above.
Physic 92-80 = 12.
Chemistry 81-66 = 15.
=27.
Physic 92-80 = 12.
Chemistry 81-66 = 15.
=27.

Why can't we directly take 27 from the table 30 and above. It is less than 40 % and we can easily get 27!
Is there any logic here? Help me.

It is simple, the total no of students 100.
And who got 40% students is 73 remaining students are less than 40%.
So, 100-73=27.
And who got 40% students is 73 remaining students are less than 40%.
So, 100-73=27.
