Directions to Solve

The following pie chart give the information about the distribution of weight in the human body according to different kinds of components. Study the pie charts and answer the question.

Distribution of Weight in Human Body

3.
What is the ratio of the distribution of proteins in the muscles to that of the distribution of proteins in the bones ?
2:1
2:3
3:2

D is correct because pie chart here is talking about distribution of weight, like 3/10 of body weight consists of muscles, 1/5 bones weight, and 24% proteins weight, since we don't know the proportion of bones and muscles in our body it cannot be determined.

Here, it can be cleared if we differentiate between" portion of the body "and" portion of the body's weight", this questions talks about a portion of the body's weight.

I think the percentage of protein is a different subject and weight distribution of components of the body is a different subject. They cannot be correlated or levied as the weight of the body which does not confirm the presence of protein into it per unit of weight. Since it is asked as a ratio of proteins between two components given in weight, it appears alien.

If you are getting 3:2, you are considering the body to be homogeneous, that is the percent of protein is equal in all parts of the body, which is not the case. This 24% is an average of the distribution of protein across the whole body. So the amount of protein in muscle or bone cannot be determined.

See, If the question will be the ratio of the total amount of protein present in the muscle to the ratio of total amount protein present in the bone then the answer will be 3:2.

But in this case, they have asked about the distribution of protein that we don't know. So, here in this case, the answer will be "can not be determined".

We can't equate the two because we are not given the weight of protien.

In the first question, we are asked to compare the two quantities but here we are asked to check the distribution of proteins. In order to do that we need to know the weight of protein which is not given. So the option is D.

The 2nd chart gives %s of body masses of each fraction in the first chart thus;
For muscle we have;3/10 * 24/100 =24/500,
For bones we have;1/5 * 24/100=72/1000,
Thus ratios are muscle to bone i.e 72/1000 :24/500.
Simplified to the lowest term we have 3:2.

Protein distribution is not the same in all the body parts.

Muscles may have more protein than the proteins in the bones.

So we cannot decide the distribution ratio according to the given data.
So the answer is cannot be determined.

The answer will be CND.

Because here 24% proteins mean total amount of protein present in a human's body not present only in the muscles. And here the distribution of the protein is not given for individual parts.

In human body there are 24% of protein. If weight of body is 100 kg.

Then muscles 30% given & bone 20% given. So 24% of 30 is 7.2 and 24% of 20 is 4.8 so the ratio of muscles and bone should be 3:2.

Its given that 24% of protein is present in human body.
But it is not given that 24% of muscles or bones weight is protein.

So distribution of protein is not given.
Answer is cannot be determined.
