Microsoft researchers developed a sequential artificial intelligence tool designed to diagnose medical conditions through a process similar to a doctor's clinical reasoning. Announced in a study published on October 23, 2026, the model uses an orchestrator to coordinate a simulated panel of clinical experts. Instead of analysing all symptoms at once, it determines which questions to ask, evaluates relevant physical examination findings, and updates its diagnostic hypotheses as new information and test results become available. The system reportedly achieved more than twice the accuracy of general physicians across 300 complex cases and produced diagnostic work-ups at a lower cost than those designed by human doctors.
