SatLEO Labs is the space-tech startup set to launch TAPAS-1, India’s first commercial thermal-imaging payload, using SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. TAPAS-1 stands for Thermal Access Platform for Analytics & Solutions and is designed to capture land surface temperature data that conventional optical satellite imagery cannot provide. The payload is scheduled to be deployed as part of the Transporter-18 rideshare mission. Its applications include agriculture, urban heat mapping, climate monitoring, disaster management, and infrastructure monitoring. SatLEO Labs is supported by IN-SPACe, an autonomous agency under the Department of Space established in 2020 to promote and authorise private-sector space activities.
