ISRO is set to launch the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite as part of the LVM3-M6 mission, marking an important step in commercial space collaboration. The satellite has been developed by AST SpaceMobile and is notable for being the largest commercial communications satellite to be deployed in Low Earth Orbit. Its primary objective is to provide space-based cellular broadband connectivity directly to standard mobile smartphones across the globe, without the need for specialised equipment. This mission highlights ISRO’s growing role in launching advanced commercial satellites and supporting next-generation global communication technologies.

Maitri II is envisioned as India’s modern, all-weather Antarctic research station that will replace the existing Maitri I facility. The project timeline was revised from earlier estimates, reflecting the scale and complexity of constructing advanced infrastructure in the harsh Antarctic environment. China has achieved a significant technological milestone by successfully testing the world’s first wireless rail convoy system. In this trial, seven heavy freight trains, each carrying nearly 5,000 tonnes, were operated as a single coordinated unit without any physical coupling. The test was conducted on the Baoshen Railway in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This advanced system relies on continuous wireless communication between trains and between trains and ground control, enhancing efficiency, safety, and capacity in freight transportation while showcasing innovation in railway automation.

Google’s Project Suncatcher is a long-term research initiative aimed at developing solar-powered data centres in space to meet rising AI-driven computing demands while reducing environmental impact. These satellites will form a distributed computing network powered entirely by solar energy, using advanced technologies such as Tensor Processing Units and laser-based optical communication links. The 2027 timeline reflects the complexity of developing space-ready hardware, ensuring radiation resistance, and establishing reliable inter-satellite communication systems for large-scale computing in orbit.
