Tripura launched the ₹236 crore Mission Queen Pineapple on May 27, 2026, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER). The initiative is designed as a three-year roadmap from FY2026 to FY2028 to strengthen the production, processing, and marketing of the GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, which is one of the state’s key horticultural products. The project includes establishing a hub near Agartala airport and multiple spoke collection centers across districts, along with reviving the Nalkata Pineapple Processing Unit through a Viability Gap Funding model. It also promotes bio-economy initiatives such as bromelain extraction, pineapple leaf fiber processing, and GI-branded value-added products to boost farmer income and rural development.
