Telangana inaugurated a ₹3 crore solar power plant managed entirely by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme on May 27, 2026. The project is located in Venkatapuram village in Errupalem mandal of Madhira constituency in Khammam district. It represents a major step in empowering women economically by involving SHGs in renewable energy production and management. The plant operates under Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with DISCOMs, ensuring a guaranteed buyback of electricity and steady income generation. It is expected to earn daily revenue between ₹14,000 and ₹15,000. The initiative reflects Telangana’s broader push toward renewable energy adoption and women-led economic development.
