Dibrugarh in Assam dispatched the first international cargo shipment to Bangladesh since India’s Independence from the Bogibeel Terminal. A barge carrying 540 metric tonnes of methanol produced by Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited at Namrup was sent to Pangaon Port in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The shipment travelled through the Brahmaputra River, which forms part of National Waterway-2, before entering the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route. This historic cargo movement revives Dibrugarh’s role as a river trade centre and strengthens inland waterway connectivity between Northeast India and Bangladesh. It is also expected to reduce logistics costs and promote regional trade.
