Kenya recently announced the discovery of Coltan deposits within its borders, presenting a potential economic boost. Coltan is a valuable mineral used in electronics and electric car batteries, and its responsible extraction is crucial due to ethical concerns related to environmental destruction and labour rights abuses.

The previously reported Agasthyagama beddomii, the first species in the Agasthyagama genus, was found in the Sivagiri hills of Tamil Nadu. The recent discovery of Agasthyagama edge, a new diminutive lizard species, was made in the biodiverse forests of the Western Ghats at Kulamavu in Idukki.
