Brig Sanjay Kumar Mishra, an army doctor, was awarded the Dr AM Gokhale Award for Ophthalmology in Pune on Sunday. The award is given to the most outstanding ophthalmologist in India. Mishra is a renowned ophthalmologist with over 30 years of experience. He is a specialist in retinal diseases and has performed over 10,000 surgeries. He is also a recipient of the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award. The award was presented to Mishra by Dr. Ajit Lalwani, the President of the Indian Medical Association.
