Former ISRO chief Dr. K Kasturirangan led Committee has recently submitted the draft National Educational Policy (NEP) to HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in New Delhi. The policy draft recommends incorporation of Indian knowledge systems in the curriculum, constituting a National Education Commission and curbing arbitrary fees hikes by private schools. The expert panel also proposed massive transformation in Teacher Education by moving all teacher preparation and education programmes into large multidisciplinary universities or colleges.

National Education Policy was approved on 29th July 2020. This is approved by Cabinet only and it requires the approval of states also,

This will replace the old National Education policy of 1986.

School years are changed from 10+2 format to 5+3+3+4 format. According to this, Right to Education is extended from 14 years to 18 years.
