India and Algeria held their inaugural Joint Commission meeting in New Delhi on May 05, 2026, to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation. The meeting was co-chaired by senior defence officials from both countries and focused on expanding collaboration in military training, joint exercises, defence industries, and medical cooperation. Both sides signed the Rules of Procedure to establish a structured framework for implementing defence initiatives. The engagement reflects growing strategic ties between India and Algeria following the signing of a Defence Memorandum of Understanding in 2024. Algeria, the largest country in Africa by land area, continues to play an important role in India’s outreach to African nations.
